Privacy

The short version fits in one sentence.

Tugga collects nothing about you. No account, no email, no name, no location, no advertising, no analytics, no tracking, no third-party code. We have no server that stores anything about you, because we did not build one.

What stays on your devices

What you log, the foods and meals you add, your targets, your body measurements, your manual weigh-ins and your settings are stored by the app on your iPhone and, if you use it, your Apple Watch. We cannot read any of it. Delete the app, or use Erase everything under Settings › Data and privacy, and it is gone. Before erasing, the app writes a CSV copy to Files on your phone so you can keep it if you want to.

iCloud sync is optional, and it is your iCloud

If you turn on iCloud sync, your log, foods, meals, profile and manual weigh-ins are stored in your own private iCloud database, encrypted by Apple, so that your other devices see the same log. We have no access to that database. Anything that came from Apple Health (weight, energy burned, sleep) is never synced to iCloud by Tugga; it stays on the device it was read on. You can turn sync off at any time, and Tugga keeps working exactly the same.

Apple Health is optional

If you connect Apple Health, Tugga writes what you log as dietary energy, protein, carbohydrates, fat, caffeine and water, and reads your body weight, active and resting energy, and sleep, to draw your trend, your energy balance and your patterns. Each of these is a separate permission you can change at any time in the Health app. What Tugga reads from Health stays on your device and is never sent anywhere. Tugga never reads anything else from Health.

Barcodes — the one thing that leaves your phone

Tugga ships with the Swedish Food Agency's food list and several thousand common Swedish products, so most lookups happen on your phone. When you scan or search for a product that is not in the app, Tugga sends that barcode or search text, and nothing else, to Open Food Facts, a free and open food database. Like any website, their server sees the internet address the request comes from; it does not learn who you are from us. Their handling is described in their privacy policy. The product is then saved on your phone, so looking it up again sends nothing.

Camera, microphone and photos never leave your phone

When you photograph a nutrition label or a barcode, the image is read on your iPhone. When you photograph your plate (on iPhones that support Apple Intelligence), the estimate is made by Apple's on-device model. When you use "Say what you ate", speech is recognised on your iPhone with on-device recognition, and the words are interpreted on the device. In every case the photo or audio is used once, never stored by Tugga, and never uploaded — not to us, not to Apple's cloud.

Widgets, Siri and the Action button

Widgets, Siri shortcuts and the Action button read and write the same data on your phone. Nothing about what you say to Siri is sent to us.

Notifications

Tugga sends no notifications and schedules none.

What Apple tells us

Children

Tugga is not directed at children under 16 and is rated accordingly on the App Store.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to access, correct and erase your personal data. We hold none, so there is nothing to hand over or delete — but if you want that confirmed in writing, write to us and you will get it.

If this ever changes

If a future version of Tugga ever collects anything at all, this page is updated before that version ships, with the change written in plain language at the top.
